Each patient presents with a unique bone morphology and bone quality. Selecting a femoral stem that best matches a patient’s femoral anatomy can potentially improve procedural outcomes. Pre-operative attention should be paid to the patients Dorr index (A, B, C) to help a surgeon select a stem that will provide the best likelihood of proximal fixation and avoid distal potting. As such, we acknowledge that there is no one stem type that can ideally fits all femur types. This webcast will specifically feature a discussion around the pitfalls of Type A femurs if a surgeons stem selection is not tailored to best match the patient’s femoral index. The Medacta SMS stem will be discussed as a potential solution to better address Type A femurs and avoid distal potting.
