AMIS Bikini featuring an AMIStem-P femoral stem and a Versafit acetabular cup – Dr Laude
The Anterior Minimally Invasive Surgery approach (AMIS®) allows the surgeon to perform THR through an internervous plane with muscle preservation. However, the classic longitudinal skin incision does not follows the anatomic skin creases and can result in scar widening and in some cases delayed wound healing (especially in high BMI patients).
In selected cases, the technique can be modified by performing a groin crease incision, the bikini incision, along the natural “Langer’s lines” of the skin. It results in an aesthetically pleasing cosmetic scar that can be hidden when wearing underwear or swimwear, and in potentially less wound-healing complications, in addition to the traditional benefits of the AMIS® technique.
